Autumn holidays 2021

23 September 2021

The autumn holidays 2021 are approaching and on this occasion the Vikings have extra activities suitable for children and families. Some activities will take place outdoors (with weather fog), while others will take place indoors. The activities take place during the opening hours of the museum. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Program

Wednesday 06.10: Javelin throwing in the yard

Thursday 07.10: Thin bread baking

Friday 08.10: Braiding bracelet in wool and leather, bookmark in leather

Saturday 09.10: Viking pizza

Practical information about the activities:

Thin-brush baking and Viking pizza: Children make thin bread in the Viking way, with ingredients available then. They get a small lump of dough that they should flatten out as best they can with them. Then we fry it over the fire. We will also make “Viking pizza” over the fire, the same principle as thin bread baking only that here they also get to choose some filling that they can wear. Children make pizza in the Viking way, with ingredients available then, in the fireplace. Rarely do guests enjoy themselves as much indoors as when they get to enjoy the warmth of the fire and the atmosphere of the Viking world.

In addition, you can experience the archaeological exhibition with unique finds from the area. The children’s travel guides Bædi and Børdi are ready to guide the kids if they want their own trip?. The museum shop is always open when the museum is open. In the chief’s house? which is the world’s largest? it smells of tar and bonfires, there are handicrafts, decorations and exhibitions related to the Vikings worldview/mythology.

NB: Changes due to the situation with the corona may occur. Thank you for understanding.

Feel free to read about our infection control measures before your visit. For the best experience of our audio guide exhibition, we recommend that you bring your own smartphone and headphones – unfortunately, we cannot lend equipment these days for the sake of infection control.

Groups can order Viking meals by contacting our booking. Groups can pre-book for all days for non-opening visits.
