Autumn holiday at the museums

Visit our museums during the autumn holidays! There are several autumn holiday activities at the museums this week – both for young and old.

Visit the Vikings at Borg

At Lofotr Viking Museum, the Vikings invite you to activities for children every day this week. There is a wide range of activities available; make Viking food, produce bookmarks, learn about Viking clothes and music. Visit the events page for more information about each event.

Learn about Sami place names

Johan Borgos is coming to the culture factory at Sortland and Sortland Museum on Thursday 13 October to talk about Sami place names in Vesterålen. If you do not have the opportunity to attend the lecture in Sortland, do not despair, Johan Borgos will give the same lecture at Øksnes Museum on 18 October.

Visit the seals

A classic is a visit to the Lofoten Aquarium and the seals. Did you know that this summer we welcomed two new seal pups? Opening hours and day program can be found here.

Autumn holiday at the Hurtigruten Museum

The Hurtigruten Museum has turned on the big drum and tempts with a reduced price on entrance tickets and activities for children. On Saturday 15 October, Saturday porridge is served in the café.

Meet the Vikings. Smell the tar, taste the food, feel the history. The Vikings have been awaiting you for more than 1000 years. Welcome to the Viking age.

Lofoten Aquarium

Meet the arctic cod and other species of the Lofoten sea. Feeding of seals and otters.

Hurtigruten Museum

A monument to Norway’s Transport history: Visit the bridge, engine room and cabins on the Finnmarken express route (1956) in its iconic barley. Feel the atmosphere in the lounges from the steamship Finmarken (1912). Activities for children and families. Hurtigruta’s importance is told in modern exhibitions. Food and drinks are served in the dining room anno 1956. Welcome aboard!

Sortland Museum

The importance of the oceans in the north, the vulnerable marine ecosystem and the consequences of marine litter and pollution as topics. The exhibitions are aimed at children and young people.

Joint meeting of the museums in Nordland

From 21 to 22 September, Helgeland Museum, Nordland Museum and Museum Nord gathered for the annual joint meeting of the museums in Nordland. New this year is that the Árran Julevsáme guovdásj/Lule Sami Center, the Norwegian Aviation Museum and the Narvik Centre also participated.
