The naming contest has been settled – this is Molly!

During the event Coastal Day in Storvågan in May, the Lofoten Aquarium organized a naming contest for our newest seal, which was born at the aquarium last summer. And now she has a new name!

Among the alternatives Doris, Lana, Silda and Molly, the latter emerged as the clear winner, with 43% of the vote. After a random draw, Elina Solhaug, 11 years old, was named the lucky winner and received an annual pass, a teddy and a bracelet as a prize. Congratulations!

a Surprising addition

The seal pup is the fifth seal that calls the Lofoten Aquarium its home. The aquarium already houses Lauser, Victoria, Selma and Storm. The pup came into the world last summer, as a pleasant but somewhat unexpected surprise. Operations Manager at the Lofoten Aquarium, Harald Strøm, says that he suspected that something was afoot, but that he was not completely sure until suddenly there was a new little creature in the seal pool that was being well looked after by its mother, Lauser.

– But we can’t plan everything, says Strøm.
