Our museums have various offers and activities for children and families with children this summer.

We have gathered some tips for visits and experiences.

Children’s museums

Several museums have exhibitions and dissemination specially adapted to children:

Explore the museums:

Andøy Museum

Climb the stairs of the tall cast iron tower of Andenes lighthouse. Exhibition on the harbor development. Also exhibition: Life of a Polar hunter.

Bø Museum

Experience the history of Bø through objects and exhibitions, coastal culture and the authorship of Regine Normann, boathouse and rorbu. Fairytale forest for children. Artscape Nordland and outdoor gallery nearby. Museum gift shop. The man from the sea and the open-air gallery. Museum shop.

Hurtigruten Museum

A monument to Norway’s Transport history: Visit the bridge, engine room and cabins on the Finnmarken express route (1956) in its iconic barley. Feel the atmosphere in the lounges from the steamship Finmarken (1912). Activities for children and families. Hurtigruta’s importance is told in modern exhibitions. Food and drinks are served in the dining room anno 1956. Welcome aboard!

Lofoten Aquarium

Meet the arctic cod and other species of the Lofoten sea. Feeding of seals and otters.

Lofotr Viking Museum

Meet the Vikings. Smell the tar, taste the food, feel the history. The Vikings have been awaiting you for more than 1000 years. Welcome to the Viking age.

Narvik Museum

The spectacular Ofotbanen railway and iron ore trains, Narvik city’s development and industry in addition to travelling exhibits.

Norwegian Fishing village Museum

One of Norway’s best preserved and complete fishing villages. Visit various buildings; including boathouse, cod liver oil factory, husmansstua. Main topic: life in the fishing village 1840–1960 and the development of Lofoten fishing over the past 250 years. Shop and summer café.

Sortland Museum

The importance of the oceans in the north, the vulnerable marine ecosystem and the consequences of marine litter and pollution as topics. The exhibitions are aimed at children and young people.

The Espolin Gallery

Master of Norwegian art. Immerse yourself in artist Kaare Espolin Johnson’s expressive power and explore the life and destiny of coastal people.

Cozy Christmas workshop in Narvik

Wednesday 29. November there was a cozy Christmas workshop at Narvik Museum. Both families and grandparents with grandchildren showed up and made nice Christmas decorations.

GAIA: Invitation to press conference on digital solutions for climate adaptation

GAIA Vesterålen has been invited to a European press conference where we will have a briefing about the Vesterålen pilot in the RESIST project. During tomorrow’s press conference, we will take a closer look at the role of digital solutions in the research project.
