About Museum Nord
For decades, we at Museum Nord have been allowed to safeguard and disseminate the rich and proud cultural heritage of Lofoten, Vesterålen and Ofoten. Well-known destinations and brands such as Lofotr Viking Museum and Hurtigruten Museum, together with our 19 other places of visit, attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. In this way, Museum Nord has also established itself as a cornerstone of the region’s tourism industry.
In addition to our museum operations, we work continuously with research, collection work and knowledge development in our museums and through our projects. The programmes Interreg and Creative Europe under the auspices of the EU are examples of such projects. The same applies to SKREI – a centre for knowledge and experiences related to the Lofoten fishery, which will open in Kabelvåg in 2026.
Museum Nord receives operating support through the Ministry of Culture’s grant scheme for museums and also has significant commercial activities. The commercial activities are mainly handled by our subsidiary Lofotr Næringsdrift AS. The turnover for both companies ended at Rs 118 crore in 2022, of which 50% of this was own income.
Overall, these two organizations employ 110 full-time equivalents, and 200 people during the peak season. A close-knit and committed group characterized by a strong interest in cultural history, dissemination and our local communities.
We welcome Line as the new Administration and Financial director at Museum Nord on 1 March 2024!
