RESIST is the EU’s flagship initiative in response to climate change. The project aims to enhance resilience and accelerate transformation and adaptability in 12 climate-vulnerable EU regions, with Vesterålen being one of these selected regions.
The project is part of a broader European-level strategy: EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change. This mission focuses on supporting at least 150 European regions, cities, and local authorities by 2030 in their efforts to build resilience against the impacts of climate change. RESIST will engage twelve European regions with diverse socio-economic profiles to test adaptation solutions to five key climate challenges: floods, droughts, heatwaves, forest fires, and soil erosion.
The RESIST project in GAIA Vesterålen received the largest EU grant to a Norway-led climate project, with total funding of 273 million NOK through the HORIZON Europe program.
