Head of SKREI Research Center, Jonas Walsøe, and Head of Communications at Museum Nord, Hege A. Eilertsen, met with the “Profile Group” to talk about SKREI, but also answer questions about fisheries, tourism, the environment and cooperation. The profile group is an important network for the anchoring of SKREI regionally.
The profile group is a cross-sectoral network with around 50 companies from business and society in Midt-Troms. The group has existed for over 30 years and mainly includes industrial and seafood industries, but also players in construction, transport, banking, tourism and education. Public members include the Armed Forces and local authorities. The region has approximately 30,000 inhabitants with Finnsnes as its regional centre. Industry and the seafood industry are important employers in the area.
The profile group has traveled a lot both at home and abroad with the “experience glasses” on. This year, the trip went to Lofoten, which has become a symbol of innovation and sustainability, especially in relation to the business community. With a growing awareness of climate change and environmental impact, many businesses in the region have adopted innovative production methods and are focusing on sustainable growth and development to become an attractive destination and a good place to live.
The tourism industry in Lofoten has also embraced sustainable solutions. Many accommodations and tourism operators have certifications for environmentally friendly operations, and there is a strong focus on offering activities that are gentle on nature and the use of local ingredients in the food service. The SKREI project was particularly interesting for the group as it represents all areas of interest for the group.
