Summer at the Bakery in Å

04 October 2024

The bakery at Å is a very popular destination for almost everyone who comes to Lofoten.

The oven at the bakery will soon be 150 years old, which gives an extra good taste to the baked goods that are baked there. The baking season in 2024 has already begun on 1 June.

Sold out several times

During the summer, we sold over 40,000 cinnamon rolls, and 4500 raspberry buns, almost 3000 foccacias, almost 4000 breads and baguettes. So it’s not a surprise that some days the bakery was sold out early!

The bakers have made a great effort. They started at 5 a.m. every morning and heated up the oven. While the wood burned down, they worked on shaping the baked goods.

Bread for winter fishing

In the past, when the bakery produced hundreds of loaves of bread for fishermen, the oven was mostly used in winter. And then it was extra nice to feel the warmth of the stove on cold winter days.

In the summer it was quite hot, so some days they sweated a lot. They made the dough, shaped, and baked every single bread and bun with great accuracy.

International guests

Today, guests from all over the world come to Å to taste the cinnamon rolls and baked goods from the bakery. We get many good posts in the guestbook, and are greeted with happy people who enjoy sweet moments at the bakery.

The last baking day was September 30th, which we celebrated with a finely decorated bakery and 3 for 2 offers on small pastries.

The bakery will reopen for Old-fashioned Christmas (Gammeldags Jul), on December 7th. Join us for a nice pre-Christmas celebration at Å!
