In the major work of realizing SKREI, there are many small steps that are being taken. An important task is to tell the world that SKREI is coming and what SKREI will become.
Our ambition is for SKREI to be known among as many people as possible before we open. We work to market SKREI in the tourism industry’s surfaces, the local newspapers cover the project to the great delight of the locals and we use social media and websites to tell about the project to “everyone else”.
Museum Nord, including through the SKREI Research Center, is present at conferences and meetings to talk about SKREI in various academic environments and conferences. You can read about recent examples of this here “The profile group’s study trip to Lofoten” and “SKREI at the tourism arena Nordland”. Through these measures, we make SKREI known in a number of research and knowledge environments and form networks and collaborative environments.
Now the new building is being built – the beautiful and functional Otolith. We are proud that SKREI got several pages of spreads in Industry Radar magazine!

This is what Industry Radar says about itself: “IndustryRadar is currently used as a tool for the business community to quickly update itself within its own industry, but also across industries. The portal is aimed at those who work in ? or are interested in construction, industry, energy and infrastructure industries.” The magazine is published a number of times a year, in Norway, Sweden and Finland.
We are proud that SKREI received such a nice mention in the magazine Industry Radar! It means a lot to us that so many people show so much interest and give such positive feedback as what we are experiencing. Many thanks to journalist Hilde Wexels Riser for the fine reportage.
Here you can see the magazine IndustryRadar and read the full story.

Asplan Viak is also mentioned in the same magazine because of its involvement with SKREI.
Excerpted directly from the case: “In this project, the interdisciplinary work has been important. History and culture have been central and it has been extra meaningful to be a part of. This is what landscape architect Rakel Katrine Fredriksen says about your participation in the SKREI project.”
Rakel talks about natural seed bank soil, preservation of natural terrain, the native hills – and other good considerations about the work. Read the full story here:

The Otolith is the new building – as pr now under construction – in SKREI. The magnificent building will be what meets you on arrival in Storvågan and the experiences here. SKREI consists of the Lofoten Museum, Galleri Espolin, the Lofoten Aquarium and the newly built Otolith. Together, these places tell the story of the Lofoten fishery seen from different perspectives. You will meet the history, present and future of the Lofoten fishery through exhibitions, art, cultural-historical buildings and objects and get to see life under water.
The Otolith will be 5000 m2. Here you meet history through the large main exhibition. It has an emphasis on the fish and the people, both in the past and present. In the grand narrative of the Lofoten fishery, it is also natural to draw in the sea, ecology, biology, art and culture. There will also be projections of possible future scenarios. SKREI gives you knowledge about the past and future and the opportunity to reflect on what you learn.
By the way, the Otolith has also, in its own way, gained a central place in Bodø2024.
Sortland Entreprenør secured the main contract for the building. This is the first and by far the largest of 4 construction contracts for SKREI. The scope of the contract is NOK 180 million. You can read more about this particular case here. The construction of the Otolith is now well underway, which you can read about here, among other things.
You can read even more about SKREI and associated news stories here.
