This week we have had a visit from the fifth and sixth grades at Melbu school to the old Rødgården. The students have learned about the jekt trade and the Bruun family on Børøya, through our photo exhibition “My ship is loaded with”.

We have talked about the importance of the jekts for the fisheries in the North, about the fact that you had to sew your own clothes, how common it was to repair your things in the past when they were destroyed. In addition, we have discussed the many, somewhat mysterious pieces of jewellery with human hair that the Bruun family owned.

We thank you very much for the visit and hope that everyone has had a pleasant and educational visit with us at Rødgården!
