Staff gathering 2024 was held in Narvik from 23 to 24 October. In addition, we had a big anniversary to celebrate, namely that Museum Nord turns 20 years old.
We have 21 museums distributed in Ofoten, Lofoten and Vesterålen and are thus well represented in the district as a decentralized organization. That’s why it’s extra fun to meet everyone in the same place! The Person Hall Gathering is the annual arena that gives us this opportunity.

The lunch-to-lunch gathering is filled with academic content and socializing. This year, we went the extra mile and celebrated Museum Nord’s 20th anniversary with cultural events and a gala dinner.
Our craftsmen and those who work in and with the museum shops started the ball with their own collection on the morning of 23 October. The craftsmen were given an expert tour by Håvard at Narvik Museum’s warehouse in Havnegata, the EF warehouse.

At the heart of our strategy is exhibition renewal. Our idea is to use exhibition renewal as an engine for development in all our museums, while at the same time bringing together all our disciplines in a common goal. After all, we all work with and in museums regardless of job title.

Therefore, exhibition renewal was the common thread through the professional work at the staff gathering in 2024.

We also got to meet the colleagues who have done new exhibitions and are working on exhibition projects, done some group assignments, and updates from finance, HR and administration.

The 20th anniversary was also a common thread through the staff gathering. As the pictures reveal, everyone was given a birthday hat. After the end of the program on Wednesday 23 October, we put on our finery and went on a city walk, museum visits, lectures, and ended with a gala dinner.

The first part of the party program was a trip to Narvik Museum. Here, our colleagues took us back to Narvik’s bygone heyday with navvies, construction of the Ofot Railway, industries and mining. In addition, we got to experience a traveling exhibition on the occasion of Sami Language Week, and the exhibition about the National Law Jubilee and Magnus Lagabøte.

After the museum visit, Miriam Jensen Tveit from Nord University and Sigrun Høgetveit Berg from UiT The Arctic University of Norway took us back to the Middle Ages and Magnus Lagabøte’s time. In a deep dive and very interesting lecture, we became much wiser about why the National Act in its time and afterwards is a law worth highlighting.

The evening ended with a gala dinner, speeches and anecdotes, reminiscences, and the world premiere of Museum Nord’s anniversary film.
