31 October 2024

On Monday 28th, young and old showed up at Kulturfabrikken, which had been transformed into a house of horror, filled with scary creatures and fun activities.

Halloween has its origins from various celebrations in Europe and America that thematize death, and was especially popularized in the United States in the 1900s. Children dress up in scary costumes and go door to door asking for treats. This is a fairly new tradition in Norway, which grew in popularity around the 2000’s. In Norway, Halloween corresponds to a secular version of the Christian celebration of All Saints’ Eve.

This year like the last, there was a large turnout of both scary creatures, witches, skeletons, and some ordinary humans. All in all, around 400 showed up for the free event that has now become a tradition at the cultural center.

The museum arranged a reflective safari. For the occasion, the museum was made as dark as the bottom of the sea – and in the depths you had to use a flashlight to search both high and low for animals.

The cultural school had a performance in Møysalen, where children and youths sang, danced and played to a fully booked auditorium.
