Ballangen Museum
The rich geology- and mining history of the area, and the community that built it.
04 November 2024

This autumn, a new project started at Ballangen Museum that will continue through the winter and into the spring of next year. The project is carried out in collaboration with students in work life subjects at Ballangen School and Kingsrose. Ballangen history association is also involved. The project will result in a new exhibition at Ballangen Museum.

One element of the exhibition will be a model of “the laundry “Vaskeriet” at the site of the mining company Bjørkaasen Gruber in Ballangen. The model will be built by model builder Per Henrik Mørk, who has also built models of Rombaksbotn and Hundalen, among other places.

Through the project, model builder Per Henrik will get help from students from Ballangen School. They get to participate in the process of building the landscape in which the “Vaskeriet” will be located on the model. Here it is Tim Olsen and Samuel Myklevold from the 8th grade at Ballangen School who visit the museum and help Per Henrik with model building. They work with quota heights that they cut out.

The project will result in a brand new exhibition about “Vaskeriet”, with the model and several other elements that will be developed throughout the winter and spring. The exhibition is scheduled to open in early June.
