Bad weather does not stop SKREI

06 January 2025

There have been a lot of storms this autumn and winter

Despite many days with a lot of bad weather, the work on SKREI continues – also in the construction site. Sortland Entreprenør is working on casting several of the walls around the object storages. These are located on the lower floor of the new building Otolitten. The elevator shafts have also begun to rise.

SKREI is located in a fantastic landscape. In January, the site has been bathed in winter sun for a few days – to the delight of workers inside and outside the site. Not all days have been as nice but – bad weather does not stop SKREI

SKREI will consist of…

You can almost understand SKREI as one destination. The destination offers almost everything you need for exciting experiences. Different dissemination methods will be used; Exhibitions, activities, observation – this and more facilitates good experiences for the visitors.

SKREI will consist of 4 “places to visit”: the new building “Otolitten“, the Lofoten Museum, Gallery Espolin and the Lofoten Aquarium. Together, this will give visitors different approaches to the Lofoten fishery, the fish, the place, the people and the community. Norway’s most important fish, history and culture about the Lofoten fishery and everything it has created and still is creating – gets a large-scale and varied stage!

The scenery is also part of the experience

All the parts must be tied together so that it is visually beautiful, practically accessible and so that the story is conveyed in the best possible way. One place should complement the other. It is an extensive job that needs to be put in place – and it is reassuring to see that we are on track with both construction work and the work of creating the good content. Bad weather does not stop SKREI.

SKREI is realized in Storvågan, Kabelvåg ? in the heart of Lofoten, where the commercial trade in cod began. SKREI will open in 2026.
