Lofotr Viking Museum celebrates 30 years

23 January 2025

In 2025, Lofotr Viking Museum celebrates its 30th anniversary. The museum was officially opened by King Harald on 21 June 1995. And at that time, the reconstructed chieftain’s house was completed as well as the old access facility and boathouse. The Viking ship Lofotr was already in place from 1992 and was operational for sailing in Borgpollen, the chieftain’s harbour, and at sea.

In 2011, the Lofotr Viking Museum as well as Fygle Museum and Skaftnes Gård were consolidated into Museum Nord , which consists of 21 museums spread across Lofoten, Vesterålen and Ofoten.
In these 30 years, many nationalities have visited the museum both as guests and employees, and this international environment that has been created over the years is something special that we are very proud of.
A new record was set in 2024 with 139 000 visitors.
