Visit from Austria

25 February 2025

The development of SKREI, and the activity surrounding the work carried out in the SKREI Research Center, has led to an increasing number of inquiries from researchers, journalists and institutions with research projects that may be of interest to Museum Nord.

This week, we were visited by David Segat during his research trip and had engaging discussions about an exciting research project he is working on. David is a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Geography at the University of Innsbruck, Austria.

As part of the Working Group for Development Studies and Sustainability Research (AGEF), his work focuses on sustainable development in mountainous areas and the role of specific regional actors in the context of socio-ecological transformation. The main goal of his research is to identify current regional trends and assess how the system around tourism affects these trends. In addition, the project explores potential concepts, actors and practices that can contribute to a more sustainable tourism.

The research work includes an extensive series of interviews with stakeholders from private enterprises, NGOs, politics, academia and administrative actors at both regional and national levels. These qualitative methods have become ? and will continue to be ? carried out through several fieldwork in 2023 and 2025.

As part of this, Jonas at SKREI Research Center conducted an interview to provide insight into development processes in the region and explain the current tasks and future visions for Museum Nord and SRC.

In his latest scientific research, David Segat focuses on similar research questions in the Tyrol Alps, one of the most tourist-dense regions in the world (with 12.4 million arrivals in 2023/24).
