A day working with the collection

A day of registration work in the basement of the community center at Melbu!

This week, the ladies at Melbo Manor have been on an expedition!
We are sometimes contacted by people who have things stored away that they want us to take a look at, but they are unable to bring them to the museum. Often we simply do not have the opportunity to make such trips. This week we were invited to Kjeøy in Lødingen to meet one of the descendants of Christian Frederiksen himself, the industrial pioneer in Melbu. Of course, this was not an opportunity we could pass up!
So we were off on the road!

Kjeøy does not have a mainland connection, so we were picked up by the hosts in a boat on the quay, and transported out to the old fishing village and trading post of Kjeøy. Once there, we went through a large collection of objects from the heyday around the year 1900. Here were silverware and glassware, furniture and photographs.

After several hours of good stories, packing and note-taking, we were served a delicious lunch!

We say thank you at Kjeøy and speed off across the sea again, towards Vestbygda. With us we have both stories and objects that will keep the story of Melbu and the Fredriksen family alive for many years to come.
