Last week, the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) launched a presentation film about the Hurtigruten Museum on EMYA’s YouTube page. The film provides a unique insight into the museum’s work to preserve and disseminate the rich coastal history associated with Hurtigruten.
EMYA, which is Europe’s most important award for innovative and socially engaged museums, annually assesses institutions that set new standards for museum dissemination. Through its commitment to cultural heritage and interactive exhibitions, the Hurtigruten Museum has captured the attention of the jury, and the nomination in itself is a great recognition.
Films with international reach
The recently launched film shows how the Hurtigruten Museum combines history, technology and engaging communication to create a living museum experience. Through unique themed exhibitions, the iconic ship MS Finnmarken and skilled communicators, the museum takes visitors on a journey through Hurtigruten’s importance to Norwegian coastal culture.
– We are incredibly proud to be nominated for EMYA 2025, and the film really shows the essence of what we work for. We hope it can inspire both the jury and visitors to discover how important Hurtigruten has been ? and still is ? for coastal communities,” says Aliz Fulop at the Hurtigruten Museum.
The way forward
The winner of EMYA 2025 will be announced during the official awards ceremony at the end of May. Regardless of the outcome, the nomination has already put the Hurtigruten Museum on the international museum map and strengthened the museum’s position as a leading communicator of maritime cultural heritage.
The new film can be seen on EMYA’s YouTube channel, and we encourage everyone to share and support the Hurtigruten Museum on its way to the prestigious title!
