Cultural heritage walks in Hovden and Malnes are an offer for school students in The Cultural Rucksack in Bø. We were also lucky with the weather!
In the old days, Malneskirka stood under the steep Malnesberget. In the early 1800s, it was moved to Eidet, where it stands today. But the remains of it can barely be glimpsed on the flat ground at Kjerkhaugen. The old cemetery is also located there, where people from the parish have been buried since the Middle Ages. Names and years are still shown on large memorial plates from the 1800s. Here rests Wilhelmine who was 16 3/4 years old and Peder who was 28. The old cemetery was Bø municipality’s millennium site.
Hovden and Malnes are a treasure trove of stories. The trip today went from Grindvika, to the view of Buholmen and to Malnessanden. This walk in time and among cultural monuments is an offer Bø Museum has in The Cultural Rucksack. If you look closely at the picture, you see 10th grade with teachers from Bø secondary school. Thank you very much for the trip!
