On Tuesday this week, captain and historian Eivind Lande paid a visit to the Hurtigruten Museum. Lande is a trained navigator and historian. He has worked for many years as a tour guide, mate and captain on various Hurtigruten ships, he has also worked for many years with vessel protection and coastal culture at the Directorate for Cultural Heritage. In recent years, he has been a captain and maritime advisor on board MS Gamle Oksøy, at Lindesnes Lighthouse Museum.

There was a good atmosphere on board the old MS Finnmarken while Captain Lande told and showed pictures from recent coastal route history. All the ships built since World War II and up to the present day were thoroughly presented. Lande took us on a journey through the coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes all the way to today’s shipping companies and ships belonging to the shipping companies Hurtigruten and Havila.
Many of the attendees first had a pleasant time in the café on board, with coffee and cake, before they took to the flag deck for professional replenishment.
Afterwards, the long-time Hurtigruten captain, and prime mover in the Norwegian Hurtigruten Museum Foundation, made an introduction to the crew cabins, a section of the museum ship that was opened to the public in June this year. Then it was possible to participate in a very special tour conducted by Captain Engen, for those who wished.
We would like to give a big thank you to both Eivind Lande and Sten-Magne Engen for a great evening at the museum, and thank everyone who came and shared the experience with us!
