Lofotr Viking Museum
Meet the Vikings. Smell the tar, taste the food, feel the history. The Vikings have been awaiting you for more than 1000 years. Welcome to the Viking age.
10 September 2025

Høstvekka 2025 was a week full of meetings, knowledge sharing and good experiences. Museum Nord and Lofotr Viking Museum participated in several arenas. Both during this year’s Visitor Management Conference and through a vibrant Viking stand in Leknes, we contributed with perspectives, activity and good conversations with both professionals and passers-by.
The visitor management conference was organized by LoVe Utvikling in the main hall at Meieriet on the 2nd and 3rd of September. The conference brought together both local and international experts in visitor management. This year, the main theme was how agriculture meets increasing tourist flows.
Museum Nord and Lofotr Viking Museum held their own presentations. Deputy director of Museum Nord, Torunn Rørvik Wilhelmsson, spoke about the organization’s work, new projects and dissemination of cultural heritage. From the Lofotr Viking Museum, Terje Bøe contributed, who in his role as chieftain gave insight into the museum’s work and how we manage cultural landscapes in sustainable ways.
The audience welcomed the speeches. They created engagement and contributed to discussions on how different actors can find solutions to the challenges between tourism, agriculture and local communities.

On Saturday, Lofotr Viking Museum took the Viking Age out into the cityscape. In the middle of Leknes, we set up tents, lit fires and invited people in. Visitors could experience flatbread baking on iron pans from the Viking Age and listen to music on authentic instruments.
The atmosphere was warm and inclusive. Many stopped, tasted and had a chat around the fire.
The stand became a living meeting point. Passers-by got a taste of the daily life of the Viking Age and an opportunity to experience how we combine historical communication with good conversations here and now.
The combination of professional participation at the conference and direct meeting with the audience in Leknes provided a comprehensive presence during Høstvekka. For Museum Nord and Lofotr Viking Museum, visitor management is not just about planning and politics. It is also about creating experiences, building understanding and strengthening the community both locally and internationally.

We thank you for a memorable week and look forward to the next meeting point!
