Nordic Museum Association Conference 2025

22 September 2025

The Nordic Museum Association’s conference 2025 took place on 17-19 September at the Vildmose Museum in Brønderslev, Denmark, hosted by the Museum of Supply and Sustainability.

Elin Tinuviel Torbergsen gave a professional presentation at the Nordic Museum Association’s conference. The presentation was titled ‘Journey Through Time: Display of Historical Periods through Mobile Augmented Reality’, where Elin introduced the concept of time travel between historical eras, from the Viking Age to the early Middle Age, and demonstrated how the app can visualize changes over time.

The program featured keynotes from Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Greenland, as well as numerous parallel sessions on social sustainability, the restoration of cultural heritage, the role of museums in local communities, and the future of museum practices. Elin’s contribution was included in the session on the restoration of cultural heritage. The participation provided valuable academic inspiration, expanded networks across the Nordic countries, and deeper insight into key trends in contemporary museology.

A topic that made a particular impression was the concept of cultural revitalization. This is about how the cultural sector can contribute to strengthening society’s resilience, creating hope and community in times of crisis, while also ensuring the preservation and protection of cultural heritage during unforeseen events. A question for reflection is how Museum Nord and other museums can engage with cultural revitalization, especially in times of crisis.
