The work with SKREI is at a good pace. There are many tasks to be performed. The new building Otolith will be built. New exhibitions will be developed. Decisions will be made about opening hours and opening dates. How will the restaurants be operated? How do we reach out with marketing communication?
Information meetings are one of the many tasks in the project. In mid-October, we had the pleasure of welcoming about 30 people associated with the tourism industry in Lofoten, who came to get more information about SKREI.
First, everyone was gathered in the barracks rig at SKREI. The atmosphere was at its best, with interested participants and delicious cinnamon rolls. In the barracks rig, we presented SKREI as it will be when it is all finished.
Then safety equipment was handed out and the whole group joined a tour of the Otolith. The building is an impressive sight, both from the outside and the inside. We were able to walk through the exhibition areas, over the footbridge, into the foyer and even down to the lower floor where there will be magazines, among other things. Our guests gave good feedback and clearly expressed that this is exciting and that SKREI is a welcome addition to the series of good experience offers in Lofoten.
We thank everyone who signed up for the information meeting for SKREI. We will invite to more information meetings in 2026. In the meantime, we are working with viewing trips, workshops, conferences and other places where we can present SKREI. It is so incredibly nice for us to be able to tell about SKREI, and to hear so much, good feedback!

Communications and marketing manager for SKREI, Barbra Grøgaard, took the group on a tour of the Otolith
SKREI will consist of 4 main parts: the newly built Otolith, the Lofoten Museum, Galleri Espolin and the Lofoten Aquarium.
All the parts must be tied together so that it is visually beautiful, practically accessible and so that the story is conveyed in the best possible way. One place should complement the other. SKREI is realized in Storvågan, Kabelvåg ? in the heart of Lofoten, where the commercial trade in cod began.
SKREI will be a place where visitors can learn, sense, experience and understand the importance of the Lofoten fishery and the cod and the enormous values this has created and creates for Norway. SKREI will extend beyond the traditional framework of a museum.
SKREI opens 30th of June 2026.
