Nice weather and Christmas spirit
The snow disappeared, but the Christmas spirit was good in Å 6 December, when we celebrated together with young and old for the thirty-fifth time on Old-fashioned Christmas.
What exactly is Old-fashioned Christmas? Gathering, joy, a local tradition that binds Lofoten together. Old-fashioned Christmas is a fixed point in our rapidly changing modern world. Here you can meet friends and neighbors, and break up everyday life with a little Christmas magic.
Like every other year, we heated the baking oven and filled the air with the scent of cinnamon rolls, and we fried donuts in the bakery’s kitchen.
All the senses were involved – you could see, smell, taste and touch, even create Christmas yourself. Year after year, we have a dense, but varied program, this time with Advent time, concert, lecture, cinnamon rolls, donuts, coffee, lottery, competition, visit from Santa Claus, Christmas workshop, Christmas market, Christmas tree walk, Christmas photo, open smithy.
Many thanks to all of you!
We would like to thank everyone who attended, and in some way contributed to making the event a success!
Thanks to the museum staff for keeping the threads together. Special thanks to those who gave prizes to the raffle: our partners, private individuals, local players and large and small companies in Moskenes, Flakstad, Vestvågøy, Vågan. We collected a total of 363 prizes, which were prizes for the winning tickets.
We thank Å Rorbuer for providing the venue for the Christmas workshop, and the Ellingsen family for opening the doors to Hovedgård for visitors. To parish priest Marit who arranged for the Advent time, Dorota Chiberska and the students in Flakstad and Moskenes Cultural School for a fantastic concert, Martin Eggen for a cozy lecture, Bjørn Oscar for reading Christmas stories. We do not forget Lofotodden Musikkorps, which played Christmas melodies for sing-alongs and Christmas tree walks.
A big cheer for Santa Claus, and to our mayor, Hanna Sverdrup, who helped Santa hand out Santa bags in the barn. Thank you to all the exhibitors at the Christmas market in the Museum Café and in the Service House, Kamila Ciurkowska for the Christmas photo, and the Red Cross.
Thank you to the guests, children and parents, locals and tourists for coming together!
And last but not least, thank you to all the volunteers. Without their help in Old-fashioned Christmas, we could not carry out the event: Svein, Jorunn, Merete, Emilie, Armand, Bjørn-Gunnar, Gøran, Ruben, Jan-Eirik, Hanna.
Thank you all, and see you next year! Save the date: December 05, 2026!
