skrei creating new jobs

18 December 2025

The establishment of SKREI entails a need for new employees. There are already many employees at Museum Nord’s Vågan department – and now the need is increasing further.

Museum Nord operates and develops a number of museums in Ofoten, Lofoten and Vesterålen. We are organized into 4 departments. One of the departments is Museum Nord dept. Vågan. In Vågan, the following museums are included in Museum Nord: Lofoten War Memorial Museum, Lofoten Museum, Gallery Espolin and Lofoten Aquarium.

What is skrei?

On 30 June 2026, we will open SKREI. At SKREI, the story of the Lofoten fishery – the great winter fishing for skrei – will be told. SKREI will be about both the past, present and future and the dissemination will take place both in modern exhibitions, traditional building environments, at the aquarium and through art.

SKREI will consist of the new building Otolitten, the Lofoten Museum, Gallery Espolin and the Lofoten Aquarium. One place will complement the other in relation to the history of the Lofoten fishery, fish, ecology, sustainability, economy, social development – and everything else that SKREI will touch.

expertise in many disciplines

It requires good expertise in many disciplines to succeed in the operation of SKREI. A large number of visitors are expected, all year round. The visitors are diverse; children, adults, school classes, national and international tourists. Everyone should have both learning outcomes and good experiences at SKREI.

Many people may associate museums with the fact that the employees are historians and curators. That is the case – but we must also have various other disciplines. We have skilled people who work with finance, collection management, operations, history, research, development and marketing. We are now strengthening the staff at SKREI with more people who have cutting-edge expertise in their field.

It is with pride that we can present the new members of the team

More than 90 people applied for the 5 positions that were recently advertised. The applicants came from all over the country and many were very well qualified.

The new employees at SKREI will start between 1 February and 1 March 2026. The following have been appointed to the positions:
