Liv Helene Willumsen and Gøril Karlsen have been on a lecture tour in Vesterålen
16 February 2026

In Museum Nord, there will be several events over the holiday that you do not want to miss! Here is an overview of all the exciting things that are happening across Museum Nord’s museums.
The winter holidays have many alleged origins. From health reasons to exemption from attending school to watch the Olympic Games. In any case, the result is a week free from school all over the country, of course spread over different weeks so that it is not overbooked at Scandic in Svolvær. And other hotels in the country, by the way.

Lofotr Viking Museum starts the winter holiday weeks with the event “Winter holiday with the Vikings” both on Wednesday 25 and Saturday 28 February. Here, children of all ages can join in on fun activities under the auspices of the Vikings in the chieftain’s house at Borg! Maybe you even get to make something you can take home with you?
Want to stay a little into the evening after the event of the day? Sure, at Lofotr Viking Museum they have thought of that too! In the evening on Saturday 28 February, new events “Grave walk – Where the ancestors rest” will take place. The tour through six stops in the landscape around the museum offers insight into funeral traditions from the Stone Age until more recent times!

We take a trip to Narvik Museum. There will be a “Train Party in the Museum Garden” both Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 March! The locomotive El. 12 is a sight most people don’t experience every day, you would think that just one look was enough to have an experience during the winter holidays. But no, Narvik Museum is banging the big drum this winter holiday and offers both activities for the children, fire pit, cocoa and juice!

From train to boat! We continue to the Hurtigruten Museum where they arrange “Family Day” on Saturday 7 March. This will be a day filled with both experiences and the joy of creating for the little ones! The event offers unique experiences that offer a new perspective on life under the sea, and encourage exploration. At Museum Nord, we love curiosity!
Back at Lofotr Viking Museum, the event will be repeated from week 9, so everyone can take part in the event no matter where in the country they travel from! On Wednesday 4th and Saturday 7th, there will again be activities for children of all ages under the auspices of the Vikings in the chieftain’s house! Again, maybe you get to make something you can take home with you?
We end the winter holiday weeks with a bang at Bø Museum on Women’s Day, Sunday 8 March! Then there will be a free “Lecture with Åsa Elstad” who is a historian. She will talk about a very current topic at the moment; women’s role in a male-focused society. Here, Bø museum offers a very knowledgeable evening where we hope to learn a lot! It will also be possible to buy coffee and cake, it’s not like you’ll be less inclined to go then!

What a program! With us, you should not be afraid of running out of things to do during the winter holidays. We look forward to having a visit from you all and wish everyone a good and relaxing winter holiday!
All events are included in the regular entrance ticket at their respective museums, and if you have an annual pass, it is free. Unless otherwise specified.
