Friday the 13th? Yes!
The Norwegian Fishing Village Museum arranged Lofoten Fishing Day on Friday 13 March with steaming of cod liver oil, tongue cutting, cod liver oil painting, transmaking and a tour of the fisherman’s cabin.
We had a record number of visitors who were interested in the event. The guests enjoyed watching the cod liver oil process, and many got to try their talent in tongue cutting. Sørvågen kindergarten also made the trip to Å, and the children were introduced to cod liver oil and tongue cutting and life in the fisherman’s cabin.
An important tradition
It is important for us at the Fishing Village Museum to celebrate the Lofoten fishery with our own Lofoten Fishing Days. The traditions and cultural heritage surrounding the Lofoten fishery must be preserved and passed on to new generations, as well as to visitors from both Norway and abroad.
Changes in the migration patterns of the cod and the fisheries in the area may affect these traditions, but we are sticking to our role and opening our doors to everyone.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the event at Å! See you next year!
