Viking ships, stories and dancing at Borg

16 March 2026

On Saturday March 14th, Lofotr Viking Museum in collaboration with Meieriet Library arranged the first Super Saturday of the year in the Chieftain’s House. The event brought together both young and old. It was a day filled with play, creativity and good experiences in cozy Viking surroundings.

Throughout the day, the children could make their own Viking ships in cardboard. The ships were painted, cut out and glued together, before they were decorated with masts and sails. The activity was popular, and all children gave the ships their own expression before taking them home. There was also baking of stick bread in the guild hall, a classic that gathers around the fire.

Stories and community

One of the day’s gathering moments was the storytelling of Ormen Lange and Olav Tryggvason. On benches and on skins laid out on the floor, the children watched excitedly as the story was told by Volven.

Towards the end of the event, young and old gathered and rounded off a pleasant Super Saturday with singing and ring dancing, to the sound of drumming from one of the Vikings. Many people participated in the dance, and the atmosphere was good.

During the event, around 50 visitors, both adults and children, visited the event. When some of the children were done with the activities, they used the time to explore the Chieftain’s House further. They played and ran around together.

We are very pleased with how Super Saturday turned out at the museum. Thank you to everyone who stopped by us at Borg.

Next Super Saturday

The next Super Saturday will be held at Meieriet library on April 11. Here, the children get to help fill a large sea on the wall with boats they design themselves. In addition to several activities for children of all ages.
