NHO Reiseliv region Northern Norway gathered in Svolvær in March for the annual meeting and member meeting. On that occasion, SKREI and Museum Nord had the opportunity to show off.
According to NHO, the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) is Norway’s largest interest organization for companies. It functions as the main employers’ organisation for the private sector and works for increased profitability and political influence, among other things.
In March, the members of NHO Reiseliv gathered in Svolvær and then SKREI had the opportunity to show off – this time in the form of a presentation at Thon.
The presentation of course included what SKREI will be – what can the audience experience during a visit. With the help of sketches, films, pictures and speeches, the audience was taken on a tour of SKREI: SKREI will include the existing venues Lofoten Aquarium, Lofoten Museum and Galleri Espolin – in addition to the new building Otolith and and impressive new main exhibition. The cod runs like a red thread through all of SKREI.
Whatever you choose to watch, participate in or listen to, it should somehow fit into the history of the Lofoten fishery and the values it has created for the region, the region and the country. Through art, history, tradition, food, architecture, activities, exhibitions and more, SKREI will facilitate the sharing of knowledge, strengthen identity and build pride and understanding of ways of life and society along the coast.

SKREI is part of Museum Nord. Museum Nord is the so-called consolidated museum of northern Nordland and has a total of 21 museums in Ofoten, Vesterålen and Lofoten in its portfolio. Among these are the Lofotr Viking Museum, the Hurtigruten Museum, the Narvik Museum – and many, many more in a large and diverse region. In 2025, approximately 326,000 guests visited our museums. A very large proportion of our guests are international visitors.
The audience listened attentively to what we had to say. During the evening, Barbra and Hege received many positive remarks about SKREI. The fact that a place is created in this category will have ripple effects for many – also far beyond the borders of Storvågan, Kabelvåg and Vågan. Many also greatly appreciate and emphasize the importance of this important part of Norway’s history now being told.

We take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who shared good words with us, about SKREI, about the presentation, about Museum Nord and about our fantastic history and region!
Thank you to NHO for making room for us in a tight program, and thank you to Thon Hotel Svolvær for good facilitation and fantastic hosting – as usual.
