Recently, three of our employees at Borg received diplomas for completed lifesaving and first aid training. Visible proof that Lofotr Viking Museum takes emergency preparedness seriously.
The course is part of a larger campaign titled With a heart for local sustainability and maritime preparedness. An initiative under the auspices of Custom Arctic Adventure Lofoten by general manager Frode Nygård. It’s aim is to strengthen local maritime preparedness and increase the availability of life-saving equipment in the area. The action was started after the tragic accident in Nappstraumen in September last year. And the response from local companies and organizations has been very positive.

Lofotr has contributed with a donation to the campaign. Which works to procure defibrillators for emergency vessels and local SAR initiatives, among other things. The preliminary status of the operation is that a total of 6 defibrillators have been procured and installed at local actors, on vessels and available to the public. In addition, 17 participants have completed courses.
The course was conducted by the Rescue Service. “We regularly train with the rescue boat at Ballstad, RS 125 DET NORSKE VERITAS. We greatly appreciate the cooperation with both the rescue boat and the Rescue Service. It makes us a better and safer player in our business,” says Frode Nygård.
Defibrillators have been delivered at Vestvågøy Husflidlag, Lilleeidet Marina and at Ballstad. Also on board Isqueen, in Custom Arctic Adventure Lofoten’s own vehicle and in vessels for REEL Lofoten at Reine, there are now defibrillators. These are also available as contingency for HRS.
Kim Are Botolfsen, Sunniva Bårdsnes Dalland and Benjamín Villela Guzmàn completed the life-saving and first aid training. As part of the museum’s participation in the campaign based on its role as bearers and communicators of cultural heritage and history. The diplomas were accepted by Line Andreassen (Administration and Financial director, Museum Nord) and Anna Insa Vermehren (Head of Research and Development, Museum Nord). Before they were later handed over to the three course participants.

The diplomas were handed over at the administration building at Borg.
The campaign is ongoing and open to more contributors. Organisations and companies that want to support local maritime preparedness and sustainability work are encouraged to contact the organisers.
