SKREI museum is open!

02 July 2026

SKREI is open

There was a line of people outside the main entrance at Otolitten before 10.00, the cakes almost flew out and we have received so much nice feedback!! The first guests through the door had traveled all the way from Trondheim to take part in the opening.

Svein Ingvoll Pedersen, department director of Museum Nord in Vågan, serves cake to the first guests.

For Museum Nord, this was a big day. Although everyone involved has had a strong belief that the new building and not least, the new exhibition would be good, it is incredibly exciting to hear the audience’s feedback.

Local, national and international guests

On the opening day, a nice mix of residents from the local community, the region and visiting tourists from home and abroad came. The feedback is so good and so nice!! There were many words of praise that were given this day, about the exhibition, the building and the whole idea behind SKREI. Thank you to all the guests who are so generous and share with us!!

SKREI consists of Otolitten (which opened on 30 June), the Lofoten Aquarium, Gallery Espolin and the Lofoten Museum. The last three locations have been in operation for many years, while the Otolith and the large exhibition in the Otolith are brand new.

The official opening will be on 19 September

On 19 September 2026, Minister of Culture and Equality Lubna Jaffery will come and make the official opening of SKREI.

As part of the official opening, there will be many days of activities and experiences. While we wait for the official opening, we are very happy to be able to welcome guests as early as June 30th!

Delicious cakes were served to happy guest. Project manager Jens Henrik Andersen in conversation with department director Svein Ingvoll Pedersen.

There were also many guests at the Lofoten Museum, Gallery Espolin and the Lofoten Aquarium on this day. There are many who report back to us that it is very exciting that history is tied together as nicely as it is by the fact that the museum, gallery, aquarium and the large exhibition are now so closely connected to each other. We are very pleased that guests are excited about this idea. For Museum Nord, it is an important move to connect all the places of visit closely so that guests can get more, exciting entrances and perspectives on history – and many, good experiences.

We feel that The Otolith and SKREI have gotten off to a good start. Thank you to everyone who came, thank you to all the wonderful feedback, congratulations and good wishes. We look forward to the continuation!

We also send a thank you to Lofotposten, Våganavisa and NRK for great reports and features on both radio and television.
