An adventurous Superlørdag with the Vikings

On 28 August 2026, the Hurtigruten Museum turned five years old, and the anniversary was marked in the most natural way possible – with a visit from all the five-year-olds in Hadsel municipality.
The Hurtigruten Museum was filled with laughter, singing, cake and curious looks when the youngest guests got to celebrate one of the region’s most important cultural buildings. For many, this was their very first meeting with the Hurtigruten Museum.
– We wanted to celebrate the fifth anniversary together with those who also turn five this year. It’s a great way to celebrate both history, community and the future,” says director of the Hurtigruten Museum, Hanne Gravrok.
An important boost for the entire region
When the Hurtigruten Museum opened its doors five years ago, it marked the start of a new chapter for Stokmarknes and Vesterålen. The museum has since become an important attraction that attracts visitors from all over the country and the world.
– The Hurtigruten Museum represents one of the largest investments in the future the region has seen. This monument has helped to strengthen Stokmarknes as a meeting place, workplace and tourist destination,” says Gravrok, who has many plans for the next six months.
A day the children will never forget
Throughout the day, the children got to explore the museum, hear stories and of course enjoy birthday cake.
Heard from the children were:
– It was great fun! I’ve never been here before, but I want to come back again.
– Where is the captain?
– It was fun to cast off, and really fun to be in prison.
The statements perhaps sum up some of what the anniversary day was about: creating memories and inspiring new generations to discover both the history and the experiences that exist in their own municipality.
A day to remember for the future
The five-year anniversary is not only an opportunity to look back on what has been achieved. It is also an opportunity to look to the future.
When today’s five-year-olds look back on this day, the hope is that they will remember a birthday celebration filled with joy, fellowship and discovery. Just like a five-year anniversary should be.
