The Vikings At Høstvekka In Leknes

07 September 2026

What a fantastic Saturday we had during Høstvekka! Lofotr Viking Museum set up the Viking tent in the middle of Leknes, lit a fire and filled the air with historical tones from exciting instruments. It was incredibly fun to see so many curious children and adults stop by, participate in the activities, try something new and feel the real Viking atmosphere.

Every year, we look forward to meeting the locals during Høstvekka. Having a chat and telling a little about all the exciting things that are happening at the museum. This year, there were especially many who were fascinated by the traditional crafts we brought with us.

Our talented colleague Thom Kelly brought an ongoing woodcarving project out into the streets! In front of the eyes of the audience, he shaped the beautiful, wood-carved panel. They will adorn the entrance to the chieftain’s house at Borg. It was a fantastic opportunity to see real, historic craftsmanship in practice. And a small, living taste of what you can experience when you visit us.

Were you inspired to see and learn more?

Bring your family, friends and your own curiosity, and visit us at Lofotr Viking Museum! Come and smell the tar and bonfire, be impressed by the magnificent craftsmanship in the chieftain’s house. Join us on your very own time travel.

We look forward to welcoming you to experiences inspired by the Viking Age!
