This is what the Opening Week at SKREI will be like

18 September 2026

September 19 is the official opening of SKREI – and this will be celebrated with a whole week filled with exciting experiences!

We are passionate about sharing our fantastic coastal history, and on the occasion of the opening, we have put together an eventful program for everyone who is curious about the past, present and future. Join us to explore, learn and feel the good atmosphere. Whether you want to dive deep into new research, listen to exciting conversations, or just attend the big party, we have something that will engage you.

This is what happens during the opening week:

Artist talk: Randi Nygård – 16 Sept.

Ahead of the official opening, we have invited her to an artist talk together with the department director.

Research Square for Children – 17 Sept.

Seven educational stalls with different content and activities for children. Themes are taken from the main exhibition “With the sea”.

Miniseminar: Cod and trust – 17 Sept.

A mini-seminar on knowledge, management and cooperation around the cod.

Vernissage Gunnar Berg – 17 Sept.

Gunnar Berg chose art instead of his family’s traditional fishing business, and became one of Lofoten’s most important painters.

Official Opening of SKREI – 19 Sept.

Finally, the day is here! We mark the official opening of SKREI with activities for young and old!

All events are free! We want as many people as possible to take part in this big milestone. Therefore, admission and participation in all events in the opening week is completely free!

We are very much looking forward to welcoming both the local community, families and visiting guests to mark the opening of SKREI in the very best way. Bring your friends and family for a week filled with curiosity, discovery and community.

We look forward to seeing you!
