Last week was very eventful. Many people wanted to experience the opening week at SKREI, therefore many meetings were held there that week.
SKREI is a collective term for the Lofoten Museum, the Lofoten Aquarium and the Espolin Gallery as well as the Otolith, a beautiful new building with a new exhibition called With the Sea. With the Sea is based on the migration of the cod from the Barents Sea to Lofoten. And the cultural-historical significance this has had for the region and Norway in general. Well worth a visit.
During the opening week, there was also a joint meeting for all the boards of the museums in Nordland. These included the Nordland Museum, Helgeland Museum and Museum Nord. Vardobaiki Sami Centre and Northern Norway Art Museum were also represented. These meetings are a very valuable arena for the museums,. Here we can exchange experiences, ideas and create networks throughout our elongated county.
The county councillor for society, culture and the environment was also present and gave good speeches. Even though the money bag is getting smaller, it is important that you get to discuss topics in relation to operations, projects and tourism. The representative from Kultur-IT, a company owned by the museums in Norway, talked about various digital solutions that they can provide. Perhaps the best known is Primus, which is a program in which we register objects.
The museums play an important role when it comes to creating content in various tourism strategies, and in some cases we are already a “reason to go”. Destination Lofoten and Northern Norwegian Tourism contributed with very interesting perspectives in this respect. We would like to thank everyone who came to the joint meeting. And we look forward to seeing each other again in Mosjøen next year.
