The Coastal Express Museum is making changes to its public areas. This week, the museum shop is moving from the third to the first floor, where it will be located together with the reception. The aim is to create a clearer and more accessible visitor area, while freeing up space on the third floor for new interpretation activities.
By bringing together the reception and museum shop on the ground floor, the offer will be easier to find and more accessible to visitors. The change will also contribute to more efficient operations throughout the year.
In the high season, there is a lot of activity at the museum. While in the low season it can be very quiet in the museum shop on the third floor. By gathering the functions on the ground floor, resources can be used better. At the same time, the public encounters a more comprehensive offer already when they enter the museum.
At the same time, the move opens up new opportunities on the third floor. The areas that are currently used for museum shops will be used to a greater extent for dissemination, events and activities.

Here, the Hurtigruten Museum envisions a flexible space that can accommodate photo exhibitions, changing exhibitions, lectures and events for The Cultural Rucksack (DKS).
This gives the museum greater opportunities to vary the offer throughout the year. And create activity around both history, culture and current topics.
We will renew ourselves, it is part of our social mission. With this change, we will have both a clearer audience zone and greater opportunities to use our premises for dissemination.
– Hanne Gravrok, director of the Hurtigruten Museum.
The change is therefore about more than moving the museum shop. By gathering the public functions on the ground floor and freeing up space on the third floor for dissemination, the Hurtigruten Museum wants to make better use of both the premises and the resources.

The goal is to create a clearer audience journey from the moment you enter the door. While at the same time giving the museum more room for dissemination, activity and new experiences.
