Along the way, they discover a larger world – and a greater truth. Their parents are not the heroes they believed them to be, but feared raiders. Determined to build a better future, the girls gather knowledge and forge alliances far more valuable than anything that can be won by force. While the King searches for them, Uncle Lars has claimed the throne – with no intention of giving it back… An epic adventure awaits!

The role of Museum Nord

More than just a museum

LOFOTR IS THE TRUE HOME OF THE VIKING GIRLS The journey begins in the heart of Lofoten. Lofotr Viking Museum has played a central role in inspiring the home of the film’s main characters. The animated village in ViQueens is named Lofotr, and the very heart of the film—the chieftain’s hall—is visually designed as a close replica of the magnificent chieftain’s longhouse at Borg.
A PROUD COLLABORATION PARTNER Museum Nord is a proud partner in the ViQueens project and has contributed expert knowledge throughout the production process. Through guidance from our staff, Museum Nord has provided valuable insight into the history, culture, and everyday life of the Viking Age. The museum’s artefacts, buildings, and surroundings have also served as a major source of inspiration for the film’s characters, costumes, props, and the design of its world.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE “The collaboration with Museum Nord has been absolutely incredible – it is essentially the backbone of the entire film. Our characters come from Lofotr, so it felt natural to build the story on authentic roots. We are creating an adventure film, of course, but we wanted there to be small touches of reality woven into all the magic. Museum Nord has not only opened its doors as a filming location – they have also given us access to the expertise of historians and archaeologists who have guided us, challenged us, and suggested details we never would have thought of ourselves. It has made the film richer, more fun, and more authentic. They have even contributed ideas and details that have found their way directly into the script. We are incredibly grateful – and very proud that we got to have them as part of the team,” says Harald Zwart.
The Arctic cod has also found its natural place in the story. Through the collaboration, the production team has gained knowledge and insight from SKREI into the migratory cod that for centuries has formed the foundation of the coastal communities of Lofoten. The significance of skrei stretches far back through history and has played an important role since the Viking Age.

GLOBAL STARS GIVE VOICES TO VIKINGS

With a star-studded cast list, the foundation is laid for a massive international effort with ambitions to reach a worldwide audience. Rita Ora and Ella Purnell are the international voices of Ingrid and Hedvig. The Norwegian voices are played by IsaLill Kolpus and Dagny.

Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland lends his voice to the Viking Haaland and thus plays himself in the ViQueens universe.
