Velcome to a classical concert with Nidaros String Quartet and students from Vågan Kulturskole at The Espolin Gallery.
Nidaros String Quartet has had concerts at international music festivals in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Umeå, Couvarrubias, Bilbao and Valencia as well as the Norwegian stages and festivals.
When they come to Gallery Espolin in November, they present one of the “Sun Quartets” written by the string quartet’s father, Joseph Haydn. This piece (Op. 20 No. 2 in C major) is described as a diamond among expensive jewels, and in its time set the standard for the future string quartet literature.
In addition, the quartet offers a Narvik-born composer who also knows how to exploit the string quartet’s potential. The now Trondheim-based composer Terje Bjørklund wrote “Carmina” as a commissioned work for the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer in 1994, and the work has since been played all over the world. Bjørklund’s lyrical parts and strong melodic profiling have been described in the renowned American music journal Fanfare as “an updated Grieg”.
This November day you will also hear excerpts from the Danish String Quartet renowned folk music project “Last Leaf”, where the quartet’s members have arranged Nordic folk tunes for their format. In the arrangements, the Nordic melodies are allowed to shine, as in the Danish hymn “The most adorable rose is found”.
At this concert, the quartet also gets some help from skilled string students from Vågan Kulturskole.
Tickets NOK 200,- sold at the door.
