Engegard-Svendsrud-and-Haugen trio

Consert at the Espolin Galleri Espolin in Kabelvåg

The trio Arvid Engegård (violin), Håvard Svendsrud (accordion) and Svein Haugen (double bass), will visit the Espolin Gallery in Kabelvåg with their own concert, Wednesday 21 August at 19.00.
The concert is part of the trio’s summer tour 2024 with a total of 15 concerts.

Engegård, Svendsrud and Haugen are all nationally known musicians, who have played together since 2015. The collaboration has led to many concerts and tours around Norway, and to several critically acclaimed albums, where the album “Nordlandslåter” from 2020 is one of the highlights. Engegård, Svendsrud and Haugen trio have also participated in a number of festivals, such as the Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival, the Winter Festival Week in Narvik and the Østfold Chamber Music Festival.

The program at the Espolin Gallery will be varied and entertaining. Both with classical gems and Norwegian-composed old-dance music, side by side. Among the composers represented in the program are Fritz Kreisler, Pablo de Sarasate and Johan Halvorsen, as well as the old-dance legends Bjarne Olsen, Anders Sørensen and Per Bolstad. There will also be elements of both tango and Hungarian gypsy music.

The concert is carried out with support from the Norwegian Directorate of Culture.

Briefly about the musicians:

Arvid Engegård from Bodø is a wellknown violinist. Furthermore, he is active as a conductor, and regularly leads orchestras such as the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.  In folk music, Engegård has collaborated with musicians such as Susanne Lundeng, Nils Økland and Håvard Svendsrud. Arvid Engegård is particularly known as the primarius of the Engegård Quartet. A chamber ensemble that in recent years has garnered great international recognition.

Håvard Svendsrud from Modum is known as one of the most active musicians of his generation on the accordion. After graduating from the Barratt Due Institute of Music in 1998, he has been a freelance musician with a wide range of projects, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Since 2013, Svendsrud has also been active as a producer for his own record label, Aksent.  Svendsrud has received several national and international awards for his playing.

Svein Haugen from Andøy in Nordland has been a double bass player in the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra for 38 years, most of them as solo bassist. In addition to this, he has been active in a large number of ensembles and groups, including the gypsy ensemble “Sturm und Drang”. Svein Haugen is today constantly to be found in various orchestras and ensembles. Furthermore, every late summer he leads his own festival Festitur in Vesterålen.
