Information meeting about SKREI
On Monday May 26th, Norway’s Minister of Culture and Equality Lubna Jaffery will lay down the official foundation stone for SKREI.
That same evening, we mark the occasion with an information meeting at Galleri Gunnar Berg. Here we share some glimpses from the laying of the foundation stone, the current status of the construction project and the new exhibition. Have you ever wondered what SKREI is going to be? SKREI is the largest museum establishment in Northern Norway in decades, and one of the region’s most important cultural industry projects. SKREI is funded by Vågan municipality, Nordland County Council, the Ministry of Culture and private sponsors.
In SKREI, we will tell stories about cod, people, our society and about living with the sea. SKREI is a boost for coastal culture and concerns all of Norway. SKREI will be a destination with attractive experiences in four arenas: the newly built Otoliten, the Lofoten Museum, Galleri Espolin and the Lofoten Aquarium. The official opening is scheduled for summer 2026.
