International Children’s Day and the Generation Games 2026 in Øksnes

Join us on the 6th of June when we celebrate Children’s Day and the Generation games of 2026!

Øksnes Museum participates in the Generation Games with a magnetic fishing game from the new exhibition “Did you hear that?: Tales of Guidance and Warning”.
Join our activity and many others at the town square and Huset for alle at Myre.

Program:

11.00 Train with the drum ladies from Handelsparken to the square.

11.20 Opening of the Generation Games

11.30- 13.30 Creative workshop and Generation Games, various activities inside and outside in the square.

Participating organizations/teams and associations so far are: Øksnes Kystlag, Fiskarkvinnelaget, Mental Health, Museum Nord, Philippine Association, Cultural School, Volunteer Center, Øksnes Disc Golf Club, Øksnes Drum Ladies, Youth Council, Livd, the Elderly Council and Øksnes Pensioners’ Association.

What are the Generation Games?

The generational games are about play, mastery and community across ages. It is a low-threshold public health measure that makes use of the local environment and volunteering, and which has proven to be very successful in many places. The activities can be both physical and social, such as: simple ball games, quizzes and brain teasers or practical or creative tasks

The teams consist of at least two generations (they do not have to be related). The participants go around to different activities, get a stamp or cross for completed activity ? and is rewarded for participation. The goal is not competition, but participation, joy and relationship building across generations.
