Lecture: A maritime perspective on Iron Age settlement at Borg and elsewhere on Vestvågøy (English)

How has the landscape around Borg affected the people who lived here through the Iron Age?
In this lecture, archaeologist Stephen Wickler from the University of Tromsø takes the audience into new research on Iron Age settlement at Borg and elsewhere on Vestvågøy, with a particular focus on the maritime landscape around Borgpollen.
Through results from boathouse excavations on Storeidøya and analyses of lake cores from the Borg area, Wickler shows how changes in vegetation, sea level and landscape have affected settlement and human activity from the Bronze Age until today.
Stephen Wickler has been researching Lofoten and Vestvågøy for a number of years, and the lecture gives an insight into both archaeological finds and recent interdisciplinary research.
