This year it is 750 years since Magnus Lagabøte’s national law was passed and valid law for the whole country. It also had consequences for the communities in the north – among other things, Vågabok had to go out of use.

«… that the king did not want more law books in the country than one”

The Lofoten Museum and Vågan Library invite you to a lecture on the National Law Jubilee and the Middle Ages in the North, with Sigrun Høgetveit Berg and Miriam Jensen Tveit. The lecture will be at Arbeidern in Kabelvåg, and starts at 19:00 on Tuesday 22. October. The lecture will be held in Norwegian. Miriam Tveit tells about Vågabok, Bylov and Landslov in 1282.

Museum Nord has created exhibitions about the Laws of the Land (Landsloven) and the Middle Ages that you can see in all Museum Nord’s departments. In Lofoten you will find the exhibition exhibition at the Lofoten Museum and soon also at the Viking Museum!

Sigrun Høgetveit Berg is a professor of ancient history at the UiT – Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø and historian Miriam Jensen Tveit is an associate professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Nord University in Bodø.

They are on a lecture tour in Museum Nord in week 43, and will come to Vågan on Tuesday 22 October.

The lecture is open to everyone and free of charge.

Welcome!
