On Thursday 13 October at 7 pm, Johan Borgos will come to Kulturfabrikken to give a lecture on Sami place names in Vesterålen.
Today, few Norwegians understand Sami, while most Sami in Norway understand Norwegian. It is the result of more than 1000 years of Norwegianisation that has made the Sami language what it is today. Sami place names are valuable cultural monuments in several ways. They testify to the Sami use of the landscape in the past. The names also provide information about the dialect used in the area. Today they are important according to Sami identity through their symbolic value.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at the museum shop Tuesday- Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased in the hour before the lecture starts.
Well met for a nice evening!
