Midwinter blot

Saturday 10 January 12:00 - 14:00

Darkness has settled over the Viking Museum, and the hope that the light will return is strong.

During Jólblot we gather in the Chieftain’s House to mark midwinter as the Vikings did. With the help of Volve, we seek signs from the gods: Will the sun return, or are we one step closer to Ragnarök?

We light a fire, offer something hot to drink and fill the house with music, dance and activity. In the midst of the coldest and darkest time, we gather to keep hope alive and look forward to the year ahead.

Program:

12:15 – Blót with Volve, the Chieftain, and the Housewife outside the Chieftain’s House.

Afterwards, there will be an indoor break with tea served, and an opportunity to take part in the day’s Saturday activity: Create your own amulet!

From 13:05, there will be singing, music, and dancing inside the Chieftain’s House.

Around 13:40, Volve bids a final farewell and gives thanks to the gods. The Chieftain concludes the day with a speech of thanks to all visitors.

Price:
Included in the regular entrance ticket
Free for annual pass holders (2026)

The museum has regular opening hours, and those who want to stay behind for activities in the Chieftain’s House after the program are very welcome.

It is possible to purchase annual passes for both Lofotr and Museum Nord throughout the year, and they will also be available for purchase during the event.
The annual pass grants free admission to either the Viking Museum or all 21 Museum Nord museums throughout 2026.
