On the eve of the “Golden Age” – seen from the crew mess

Welcome to an exciting evening where Jens Hoel takes us back to “the decade of the stiff fronts”.
Here gives us a picture of the 70s, “the decade of the steep fronts”. From the time when one in four Norwegians was at sea. Set with 70s glasses, without the 2024 woke. He takes us to Otto’s bar – “first and last stop” and Brooklyn’s creepy street gangs, to small villages in Indonesia and Mata Hari in Hong Kong. But most of all to Negro work and the inner secrets of the “Ship Group”. The life of a sailor consists of more than “Women, wine and song”. Hoel shows us the homesickness when you are outside and the outsider when you are finally home. Speaks of the deepest comradeship and the bitterest strife.”
His novel is inspired by actual events. The main character, Kristian Stavne, comes from a working-class family in Trondheim, and correspondence with his girlfriend and family gives us an insight into what was close to the people in Trondheim 50 years ago.
