SKREI Opening Week – Artist Talk: Randi Nygård

Artist Talk with Randi Nygård
Randi Nygård has created two artworks especially for the new main exhibition at SKREI.
Ahead of the official opening on Saturday 19 September, we have invited her to SKREI for an artist talk with Department Director Svein Ingvoll Pedersen.
Nature, and humanity’s relationship with nature, has been a central theme in Nygård’s work for many years. She has often collaborated with researchers and people from fields outside the arts. She curated an art project based on the Norwegian Marine Resources Act. And edited the anthology Dei viltlevande marine ressursane ligg til fellesskapet as part of the project.
Taking Nygård’s artworks as a starting point, the conversation will explore the role art can play at SKREI, humanity’s role in the environment, and how the poetic and the things we cannot fully comprehend about animals and plants can play a part in how we manage nature.
Nygård’s artworks – where the flat becomes spatial, the figurative moves towards the abstract, and the informative becomes poetic – can be seen as an invitation to look at the world in a way that is, at the same time, both more open and more interconnected.
Time: Wednesday 16 September at 18:00
