Welcome to a lecture with Åsa Elstad about the Bruun skipper family on Børøya and the treasures they left behind.
The lecture deals with some of the history of the Bruun family when they were engaged in trade and hunting on Børøya in the period circa 1750–1850.
Melbo Manor has a large collection of objects from the family, and in the lecture the textiles in the collections and what they can tell about life at the trading post will be highlighted. Special attention will be paid to the lives of women. The collection is considered one of the finest textile collections in the country, and contains many exclusive garments according to the fashion of the time and many objects that tell about
versatile and beautiful handicrafts.
Åsa Elstad is from Stokmarknes, is a historian and has been senior curator at Museum Nord’s department in Sortland.
