The Tank Concert at Neptun – Håkon Kornstad Solo
When Håkon Kornstad holds court, you as an audience are present with all your senses, surrounded by a musicality that hits all nerves, a quality that remains as a memory for life. As a saxophonist, he is unique with tone and control that few can match; As an opera singer, he has the same ability to make his fresh experimentation known and lasting.
When he plays solo live, he combines both genres, creating his own accompaniment with a loop machine that he plays and sings on. What place more suitable than Konserttanken with its incredible 16 seconds of reverberation. Caruso meets Coltrane. Björling meets Garbarek. Kornstad meets Neptune, in Nordland Academy’s fabled Tank Concert.
“It could have been a virtuosic circus act, but in Kornstads hands was a musical tour de force.” (The Guardian)
“That such an incredible talent has not reached the ears of a wider audience is truly astonishing. To anyone with even the slightest interest in jazz and opera, Kornstad is a musician who simply must be heard, for there is no one else like him! A modern legend in jazz? No doubt about it!” (The Journal, Newcastle)
Håkon Kornstad is an opera tenor, tenor saxophone, flutes, flutonet, loop machine.
