“Threads from the past”? Lecture and afternoon coffee with Åsa Elstad

Åsa Elstad comes to Kjøpsvik Public Library and Cultural Centre to talk about textile traditions related to the North Norwegian coastal culture, based on her recently published book “Threads from the Past”.

The book is about clothes, the work with clothes and its connection to women’s history, and goes through over 1000 years of textile tradition in the north. Clothing is a very exciting topic that says a lot about who we are and what societies we live in. About the book:

“Textiles are linked to many aspects of Norwegian history, such as division of labour, gender segregation, economic and social conditions and system, resources, ethnicity and ideology. A quarter chapter of the book has a recipe, a practical exercise for those who want to follow in the footsteps of textile craftsmen who have lived before us.”

There will be coffee and cake served at the event.

Welcome to the library for a nice lecture and afternoon coffee!

The event is free of charge.

The lecture will be held only in Norwegian.

The event is part of the celebration of Museum Nord’s 20th anniversary.

The event is a collaboration between Kjøpsvik Museum and Kjøpsvik Public Library and Cultural Centre.
